Another question. I want to write for micro.blog using Drummer.
I have it all set up per Manton’s excellent instructions, here.
But I can’t find the posts I write there, over here.
Any help much appreciated.

This is a test.
If you see this on the timeline, please respond, or send me an email at dave@scripting.com.
I’m trying to figure out where my posts “go” ;-)

Testing Micro.blog and Drummer
I tried it back in October, but I had so many ways to post to micro.blog, it was too much, so eventually I shut it all down, and just read for a while, and I think this is the best way for me to proceed with MB. Why? Because Drummer is where I do my writing. I’ve been focused on writing a lot in the last few months, trying to come at everything from a writer’s point of view. I realize I’ve always been doing that, but never so conscious of it. And that’s led me to realize I should stop compromising on my writing. I have my place to write. I can publish from here to any place that will accept my writing. I can publish it in a lot of standard forms, RSS, OPML, JSON, HTML, and if something simple were to come along I could post that way too. So here I am writing again on micro.blog, I hope. Let’s see if this works. 😀

We should all adopt a Natural Born Blogger and help them get started and tied into the feed network.

Titleless items demo/reference implementation
I decided to spend a day putting together a demo of how feed readers can deal with feeds that have both titled and title-less posts.
Two examples to start:
A NYT feed. It’s a very easy case. Every item has a title and a short description.
A harder case, my own blog, which has titled and title-less posts. But not really all that hard.
I’ll be releasing this in a GitHub repo tomorrow. Hope this helps at least one or two feed reader developers support titleless items.
Comments welcome.

I just wrote a new explainer for rssCloud, a protocol that’s been part of RSS since 2002.
It’s supported by WordPress, and by FeedLand and by micro.blog.
It’s simple and it makes feeds much faster.
I felt it needed a better explainer. The one we had was all over the map. This one is focused and reflects the simplicity of the protocol.

New ways to interop, part #209
If you use FeedLand you can follow my Mastodon posts via this feed.
Just click the Subscribe button and you’re in.
Mastodon provides an RSS feed for each user. A huge advance in the state of the art.
I hope Twitter adds this very important feature.

Radio3 & Mastodon
TL;DR – Radio3, my linkblogging tool, can now post to Mastodon.
How – using their API.
Limit – only posts to social.masto.land. To keep the first release simple.
You don’t like – signing on with Twitter. I know, so you don’t have to say it. 😀
Now, the how-to is here:
This is my first app to connect to Mastodon, because it’s the simplest, the place to start.

Report on my exploration of Mastodon for micro.blog people
I’ve been using Mastodon for a couple of weeks now, as much or more than I use twitter.
Getting a feel for it. Very nicely designed software, fully commercial quality, many improvements over twitter, and from what i can see a very small team. They clearly work well together.
I’ve been approaching it from a different angle than @manton – going through the API.
I’ve got it so my linkblogging tool Radio3.io can cross-post links that I send to my RSS feed, the Links page on scripting.com and to Twitter. They all go to Mastodon now too. @davew@mastodon.social.
I have a semi-private Mastodon server set up, getting ready to set one up “for real” and it’ll be hooked up to FeedLand. We’ll be able to map a category onto an account, so you get a highly customizable firehose people can subscribe to (or not, if it’s too much). So all the list building features in FeedLand will now be directly hooked up to Masto and thus also hooked up to ActivityPub so they can hook up to micro.pub that way (in addition to the rssCloud connection).
Also I wrote a new this.how piece, it’s time to figure out how to get these systems to interop at a document level. People are paying more attention now than before, so it’s time to make the needs/opportunities clear.
An embarrassment of interop riches! ☘️

A programming note
this morning i cleaned out the list of feeds that were hooked in here.
i need to restore sanity. i started with each of those feeds as experiments of the form “watson come here” basically to see if the mike was turned on and the wires worked.
without doubt they work. 🤪
now i want my presence here to be more custom to the environment, as i perceive it.
if i bring back a feed it will be for ideas i want to be here.
still diggin…

2/2 Kennedy was President, but he was the only president I had known. The idea of someone other than kennedy being president didn’t make any sense. I asked my mom, what now. Someone named Johnson would be president. It didn’t make any sense to me. Kennedy was president.

½ I have very vague but strong memories of the JFK assassination. I was 8, in second grade, my teacher, Miss Ruffino, rushed out of the classroom in tears, no idea why. My mom picked me up to walk me home, we lived a couple of blocks from the school, PS 149 Queens. I understood

To https://t.co/wJoorewQI0 users. If twitter turned us off for some reason you’d still be able to read your news while we worked around the outage. But so far there have been no problems that I’m aware of, and rushing to change tested software is a sure way to break things. ☘️Also —

1/3 Don’t underestimate the importance of Masto. It’s like the internet itself, or AWS making it easy to create your own version of Linux, or PCs letting you have your own computer. I experienced all these liberations.2/3 Some thought these unthinkable, and controlled silos do serve a purpose as training wheels. But after some time you grow up and it’s time to leave home and create your own world. I believe we are now experiencing such a moment.
3/3 We don’t need twitter to provide us a safe space. Life itself isn’t safe. Fear is frozen fun! Only steal from the best. ☘️
